Code of Conduct & Harassment Policy
At Calgary Comic Book Show, we are dedicated to fostering a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for everyone—regardless of age, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, or other protected characteristics. We want all participants to feel comfortable and enjoy their experience.
This Code of Conduct applies to all attendees, exhibitors, vendors, staff, and volunteers at all convention-related events, whether they are held at the main venue or off-site.
Expected Behaviour
- Treat everyone with respect, kindness, and consideration.
- Follow the rules and guidelines set forth by Calgary Comic Book Show, the venue, and local authorities.
- Respect others’ personal space, boundaries, and privacy. Always ask before touching someone or their belongings (including costumes and props).
- Comply with any reasonable requests from staff, volunteers, or security personnel.
- Obtain explicit consent before taking photos or videos of attendees, exhibitors, or performers.
- Keep content and behavior appropriate for an all-ages audience unless otherwise specified in designated areas.
- Report any violations of this Code of Conduct to convention staff immediately.
Unacceptable Behaviour
The following behaviours will not be tolerated under any circumstances:
- Harassment: This includes, but is not limited to, verbal comments, offensive jokes, non-consensual touching, unwelcome attention, or stalking.
- Hate Speech or Discrimination: Any speech or behavior that demeans or intimidates based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected attributes.
- Physical or Verbal Abuse: Threats, intimidation, or acts of violence against another person.
- Inappropriate Photography/Videography: Taking photos or videos without consent or in a way intended to exploit or harass.
- Disruption of Events: Behavior that disrupts panels, workshops, or other programming.
- Damage or Theft: Intentional damage to or theft of property belonging to the venue, convention, or other attendees.
- Violation of Laws or Policies: Breaking local, state, or federal laws or the rules of the venue.
Costume & Prop Guidelines
- Costumes must be appropriate for an all-ages audience. Attendees with costumes deemed inappropriate may be asked to change.
- Props and weapons must comply with the convention’s safety standards and must be inspected at the designated Prop Check station upon entry.
- No functional weapons, sharp edges, or items that could harm others are allowed. Mock weapons must be clearly marked as non-functional.
Reporting Violations
If you experience or witness any behavior that violates this Code of Conduct, please report it immediately to a staff member or volunteer. You can also:
- Visit the designated Help Desk or Security Desk.
- Call the convention’s Safety Hotline at (403) 973-2730.
All reports will be handled with discretion and professionalism. If necessary, we will involve local authorities or provide resources to support affected individuals.
Consequences of Violations
Violation of this policy may result in the following actions:
- Verbal or written warnings.
- Removal from the convention without refund.
- Ban from future events hosted by Calgary Comic Book Show.
- Involvement of local authorities if necessary.
The final decision on disciplinary action lies with the convention management team.
